I’m not sure if animations of a whole field of grass waving in the wind, in a way that looks coordinated, is realistically possible for an animator to create? I feel like things like this are often handled with vertex animation shaders.

For trees to move, a wind zone needs to be defined, whereas grass billboard are governed by the Unity terrain engine. I have seen many games do this whereby there is a transition between grass, soil, etc. How is this kind of texturing done? (Unity terrain blending DOES NOT do this.
